Family Christmas.......
November was a quiet month for Ellilias overall, didn’t manage to get away in the van at all as was pretty non-eventful.
December however is always full of Christmas spirit and things to do and this year was no exception.
For the first time we joined in the Elf on the Shelf tradition which the girls absolutely loved and found hilarious. They were excited each and every morning to see what the elf had got up to the night before. As parents though - as I’m sure everyone finds - it was getting more and more difficult as the month went on to come up with new ideas. Some nights we had the obligatory ‘dam I forget to do the elf’ moment just as you’re about to go to bed….
We had a great trip out to Glasgow with friends for the Christmas market and fair, also taking in the annual pantomime, this year it was Beauty and the Beast which was just as much fun for the adults as it was for the kids with many laughs and giggles throughout.
Later in the month we visited the Dundee Winterfest locally to us which was great, fairground rides, candy floss and toasted marshmallows. Fab evening and the girls certainly enjoyed themselves.
For Christmas itself this year we took a trip down to see my family in Cornwall. As a family we have never all been in the same place for Christmas, this year however was different.
My father has been battling with Prostate Cancer for a good long while now and this year unfortunately we found out that it had spread to other areas of his body with treatments all looking like they were unable to contain it or control the spread. So this year we all descended on Cornwall to spend the holiday together surrounding my dad with all of the family which was amazing.
Little did I know it at the time but the theme of Cancer was going to soon become more prominent in conversation among the family but I’ll leave that part of the story for the next chapter of the blog.
